The P.4000 caliber runs at a modern 4Hz and still offers 3 days of power reserve — impressive specs from a motion that’s just 3.95mm thick. It includes 203 components and 31 stones, but the majority of these are hidden by the large plate which covers so much of this motion. The balance wheel and escapement are held securely by their bridge and penis, and the micro-rotor has the Officine Panerai Watch 564 text and logo on it but this is about all the eye-candy you’ll get from the P.4000. The red gold variant has a golden micro-rotor and text — as it should, considering the hefty cost premium.Accuracy has been good, only a couple of seconds too quickly and the micro-rotor did an okay job at maintaining the motion wound. But if you wear the watch only a few hours per day, sooner or later, it will run out of juice and you are better off rewinding it via the crown daily. This is not difficult to do, since the crown is not a screw-down kind, you can wind it at any moment.One aspect of the micro-rotor — and this is something which has applied to each micro-rotor watch I’ve handled so far, regardless of manufacturer or price point — would be the noticeable noise it makes.
