Blancpain Tourbillon Diamants 2926Sometimes, it is the simplest of touches that proves the most difficult, as we see in this 40mm white gold high complication watch. You can clearly see that it is a fully set piece (that means dial, bezel, case-middle, lugs and bracelet) but that is just part of the story because a fully gem-set watch is not in itself that extraordinary. Ok, the watchmakers were responsible for the self-winding calibre 25A, a 7-day power reserve movement with tourbillon, but even this achievement pales in comparison with what is plainly evident. Yes, we find ourselves transfixed by the baguette diamonds – all 480 of them.

Typically, a watch of this sort would include several cuts of diamond but the artisans at Blancpain have opted to go with just the baguette cut. The manufacture at La Brassus calls this an unprecedented achievement and we think they are absolutely correct. No other watch we know of has managed to set a round watch entirely with baguette-cut diamonds. Going all-baguette makes the task of fully setting the dial, for example, more challenging just because of the shape of the cut versus the shape of the dial. It does not take much imagination to realize that round-cut diamonds would have been far easier to accomplish the setting here.
