Reviewing Sinn 6200 Meisterbund I
This year, Sinn are celebrating their 55th anniversary, and the 6200 Meisterbund I is their anniversary model. The name “Meisterbund” means “company of masters,” and it refers to the three different German companies involved in the watch’s production. The movement is made by Uhren-Werke-Dresden (UWD), the case is by Sächsische Uhrentechnologie GmbH Glashütte (SUG), while Sinn Spezialuhren created the dial, the design, and assembly.
It’s an attractive piece, at a size suitable for all wrists. At 40 mm in diameter and 9.3 mm thick, it is ideal as a dress watch. The dial is in electroplated silver, with fine guilloché texture creating the backdrop for the attached numerals and hour markers. The railroad minute chapter ring is printed, and likewise the details of the seconds subdial.
UWD 33.1 hand-wound movement
But the real performance takes place on the back. UWD began developing the movement, UWD 33.1, five years ago, and it is beautiful to behold, made in nickel silver, Its carefully machined wheels and plates and bevelled edges give it a matt fascination that will appeal to anyone to loves machines like steam trains, motorbikes and classic cars. It is a glorious assembly of curving metal, with cantilevered, skeletonized bridges projecting to hold the wheels and their jewels. Everything is based on circular geometries, and the entire power train, from the mainspring wheel at the top to the balance at the bottom, is in view. The balance is large, running at 3 Hertz (21,600 vibrations per hour), with a complex set of weights for adjustment, and a regulator system that enables further adjustment of precision and beat setting. The movement is 33 mm in diameter, perfectly suited to the 40 mm case. The engravings on the caseback include the edition number of each watch, and the names of the three companies involved in its production.
The calibre is hand-wound, and it provides a power reserve of 55 hours. It includes the stop-second function for precision time-setting. The case has a water resistance rating of 10 bar, 100 metres. The strap looks like alligator, with two colours available.
The Sinn 6200 Meisterbund I is a limited edition of 55 pieces, price €13,000. The “I” at the end of the name indicates that we will see some more designs from this collaboration between three companies.
